230kV Switchyard equipment are mounted on Steel Structures, also the 230kV Switchyard Main and Transfer bus bars are strung between two Gantry Towers and Beams made of Steel Structures. These Steel structures are an integral part of any Outdoor Switchyard.

The Equipment Support Structures are either lattice type or Tubular Pipe type. Gantry Tower and Beams are mostly lattice type. The Steel Structures are designed with respect to the Dead Load, Live Load, Wind Load, Conductor stringing tension, Conductor short circuit force, Equipment load and Ice Load as per Technical specification of the Project and Relevant Standards.

Substation gantries are required for stringing of overhead bus conductors either from dead end tower of transmission lines or to form a bus bar inside a substation. One set of gantry consists of two gantry towers one beam. Sometimes a peak is provided on top of the gantry tower for stringing of the lightning protection shield wire. The tower and beam are designed in STAAD software for the project specific load data.
